Conservative Movie Club

Howdy! Welcome to the Central Texas Conservative Movie Club

by Debbie Pepin

We hope you will join us on Sunday July 5 6:30 at The Cinemark Hill Country Galleria we are urging conservatives to join us in seeing Young Washington – presented by Angel Studios (see synopsis at end). Why? Please read on…

After the run-offs, almost everyone has an opinion on what is next for Texas. It is wonderful to live in a country where wecan each have our own educated opinion, share it, agree or disagree, and then remain friends (“let’s go have a beer”).The longer I live in the Austin outskirts, the more I believe that we have a wealth of “conservative” groups who never trulycommunicate with one another. Yes, a few groups share an event or a fundraiser, but we appear very polarized and favor“our group”. When I talk with someone about joining a group, their response is consistently “which one? There are so many!” What could be a way to get us all to come together and discuss similar roots? Isn’t there a solidarity and strength in numbers?

Several documentary movie makers have reached the same conclusion – MOVIES!Finding movies playing in traditional theaters is a crapshoot. As a representative affiliated with several organizations, I am spearheading an effort to find movies and locations. Movies I hope to connect to include The Great American Conflict, Duty to Disobey, The Dragon’s Prophecy, The Brink of War, and perhaps you have some ideas too. Dates for the year – scheduled for the 1 st Sunday evening of the month (except holiday interruptions) – in the Bee Cave areadue to its proximity to most potential attendees. Aug 2, Sept 13, Oct 4, Nov 1, Dec 6, Jan 10, Feb 7, March 7, April 4, May2 and June 6 (about 6 pm based on movie times if in a theater).I am trying to get the Cinemark in the Hill County Galleria to allow us to use a small theater; I have reached out to a few churches with a history of supporting conservatives, AND I need ideas/help!! Please send them my way asap. Would you advertise to your group (please pass this on to whomever within your group is the social chair) a once-a-month movie night with movies selected to both educate and solicit discussion? Meet up after to talk/eat/drink and mingle! I am reaching out to 30 groups in the Travis/Williamson/Hays County area who are designated as Conservative/Republican. Please ask your friends if they have heard. Send me other groups. We need to work harder to speak with one voice – grow our respective clubs but be focused on one agenda! The big take away from our recent Texas primary and run off elections is that our grass-roots efforts are bearing fruit! We need to amplify this drum beat through the mid-terms and beyond. In God We Trust; together we can make a difference!
